San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is set for surgery on his broken hand and will be out of action for six to eight weeks, according to a report by the San Antonio Express-News on Wednesday.

Ginobili broke the fifth metacarpal in his left hand Monday night during the first half of San Antonio's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The surgery is set for Thursday morning.

“They’ll put it out later in more detail, but he’s going in in the morning,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the Express-News. "They are going to do what they do.”

Ginobili went to social media to confirm the procedure to his fans.

"Tmrw I'll have a plate & screws on my beloved left hand. Not thrilled. I'll keep you posted. Thank u all!" Ginobili posted on his Twitter account, @manuginobili.

The Spurs activated guard Gary Neal to help replace Ginobili, who was averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game on 59.2 percent shooting.

Neal underwent an appendectomy on December 12th.  Neal was assigned to the Austin Toros of the NBDL for a rehab assignment on Monday, but was recalled on Tuesday after the injury to Ginobili.

Neal averaged 9.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 80 games as a rookie last season for the Spurs.
